Flindy, I bristled too when I saw the word "handful.". This didn't come from the FDA, I think, it's one (perhaps biased) writer's spin.
I'm also frustrated by the "no big deal we already knew this" spin being put out there by financial pundits.
THIS IS A BIG DEAL!
As recently as January, headlines were (inaccurately) claiming "FDA finds no link between Singulair and Suicide.". This new update is clear that the FDA recognizes a strong link between Singulair and MANY neuropsychiatric symptoms, including suicidal tendencies. It is a validation of what thousands have known and experienced and hopefully it will help avoid prolonged suffering for any other unlucky children and adults whose lives were turned upside down by this drug.
And one more thing: I'm sick of finding this story in the business/money/finance section of the news. It is a health story, for goodness sake! Are the editors more concerned about Merck stockholders than they are about Singulair users?
