Hello... I started taking Levothyroxine last July for slight hypothyroidism. I felt great for the first 6-7 months, but then in January the problems started for me. I was getting severe anxiety which the doctor said was stress and he also thought I was depressed. I knew I wasn't, but he put me on Ativan and Prozac. The week I took prozac was the worst week of my life. I thought the effects I had were from the prozac, but now I know now it was my thyroid spiking, which the doctor never checked my levels during this period. My heart rate doubled, I had insomnia, was gagging, sick, felt like my body was on speed and wanted to die. I was prescribed a beta blocker for my anxiety previously which I had never taken, but decided to take when my heart was racing, which helped me feel a bit better for the week, but I knew something was wrong. I had this happen again recently for about a week (and I was on nothing but levothyroxine). I know what anxiety is and I have never had anxiety or depression my whole life until these episodes that happen when taking this medication. By the time I went to the doctor to get labs done, I had been feeling a bit better and he said my levels were fine. I am now wondering if it's side effects from the meds or if it is spikes in my levels making me hyperthyroid instead. All I know is that I cannot live like this!! I have a 3 yr old and I need to be happy and healthy like I used to be before this medication... no more heart racing, racing thoughts, anxiety, and insomnia. Please help!!

9 out of 10 women do better on Armour Thyroid (this is my experience and my prescribing doctor's experience, too), but some doctors think it's unreliable due to misinformation from pharmaceutical companies and the AMA. I found a doctor who recommended the Armour Thyroid and I feel better than ever now. All of my Hashimoto's symptoms are gone, my periods are not heavy anymore, my hair is not falling out and my skin is not dry, etc. My migraines have also decreased and I lost some excess weight.

Levothyroxine gave me headaches at the exact same time every day, and Synthroid didn't help me at all. My blood tests were fine, but I was not. I heard that synthetic thyroid meds can make your blood tests look fine even if you're not fine. Armour Thyroid is real thyroid hormone. Doctors are misinformed: they are told that Armour Thyroid dosages can't be properly regulated when in fact, if you do the research, other thyroid meds are the ones that have had the real and most severe dosaging issues.

Remember, doctors aren't gods, and listen to your own body. You know when something isn't right. I made a mistake 13 years ago and didn't listen to myself and ended up having a seizure and permanent psychiatric damage because I stayed on a medicine that I knew I should go off but the doctor said, "Don't stop the medicine."

To me it really does sound like your dose is too high, but I'd recommend switching to Armour Thyroid, in fact, insisting on it.

Hey I have had the same symptoms you have had. I have gagged so much and thrown up many times and my endocronologist says that my symptoms can be from the thyriods because my levels aren't that far off. I take Levoxyl for over a 1 year and they still can't figure out my dosage. I have a 2 year old and like you said I need to feel good for her, have energy and stop the anxiaty and headaches. I asked the Dr. if he has had any one else taken so long to get the right dosage and he said no. If you want to talk my email is Alexulloa@hotmail.com
