I'm so riled up about this.
I got Mirena inserted in Nov 08 with my ex roommate, as we both figured that it sounded like the best birth control alternative, after much personal trial and error.
I've been experiencing a lot of side-effects all year which have progressively gotten worse. . I didn't link them to Mirena until last week, after stumbling onto some of these discussions. After realizing that my foggy brain, nausea, headaches, mood swings, depression, terrifying heart palpitations, chest pain, acne and tingling feet were probably from my birth control.. I went to get it out.
I had my Mirena removed yesterday at the same Planned Parenthood which inserted it. When asked why I wanted it removed, I explained my side effects and research. I was told (a bit curtly) that while my mood swings, nausea, and acne were probably from the Mirena, the rest couldn't be related, and that I should see a doctor if they didn't improve post-Mirena.
I have to admit, as relieved as I am that I'm probably not dying or anemic, I'm a little pissed that health care providers don't seem to be acknowledging these widespread problems.. Most of us know that no birth control is perfect, and everyone is affected differently, but these seem like side effects worth noting..
I've never experienced ANY of this before Mirena. Last night I had terrible chest pain. It concerned me enough to take an aspirin and have a glass of water.. Today I have some tightness in my chest/abdomen and lingering nausea.. though I've also just switched back to Nuva ring (which has worked OK for me in the past), and I'm sure that isn't making it any easier for me.. No more synthetic hormones for me...
OMG!!!! I have had two episodes of my heart racing and numbness on my right side. Once I put pressure on my face where a major nerve is my entire right side went numb. I also have the mirena. It was inserted 4 years ago at my six week check up.I have an emergency appointment with the doctor in the morning because I had an episode at work. I just happened to enter my symptoms on the google search and your site popped up. I'm wondering if the IUD has anything to do with it.
