I was prescribed Levaquin in my early twenties (about 10yrs ago) for a sinus infection and my throat swelled up after 1 pill. Turns out I had an allergic reaction to it. I was taught that It's in the same family as Penicillin, being that I'm allergic to Penn, why was I prescribed Levaquin?

Levaquiun was only introduced in pill form in 2004. It is commonly prescribed for people allergic to Penicllin. It is not in the same family. It is a flouroquinolone. Perhaps, you are confusing levaquin with another drug.

Thank you kindly for your reply to my posting. I am not confusing what I was prescribed to me. Levaquin is what I took. Being that I would have sinus infections every year I would pay attention to what worked for me and didn't. Perhaps I received the wrong information in the past, and it's sites like these that help to clarify things for people. So I thank you for your information.
