Has anyone had side effects pop up after 3 years? Yes, you heard me. Three years. Hair falling out. Joint pain. "Foggy headedness." Chest discomfort. Gotta be that. Please share.

I think it is quite possible. I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and the side effects have become more and more evident only in the past 6 -9 months. I am going to the doctor tomorrow to address this.

This is poster. My symptoms STARTED a month ago, after 3 years. So I don't know if it's Mirena-related.

I thought that my symptoms started to appear after 11/2 years, but after reading all these postings, I realized that they were within weeks. I started having tingling in my legs 8 weeks after instertion. I thought it was caused from a back problem. I have also experienced breast tenderness, fogginess and severe joint swelling and pain. It was the unbearable joint swelling and pain that led me to search for Mirena side effects. I have been to 4 specialists and had every test they could think of without any answers. The Mirena was my last hope in finding what was wrong. I am so greatful that I found these sites and realized that the Mirena may be the culprit. I have only had the Mirena out for 3 days and I am already feeling a little better.

Hi Yes,
I had my mirena inserted in early 2006. Other than spotting & irregular periods and an almost constant discharge I was generally happy with the mirena. However as I am now in year 3 I've lost about 50% of my hair denisty. If light is shining on my head you can see right through to my scalp and I always had thick dense hair.

This past year it's so noticeable that I turned to the internet to research hair loss, it's causes and remedies. Nothing in my life has changed and things are actually much less stressed than I have ever been in my life so I evaluted what changes have occured the past 3 years. The only thing I came up with was the mirena IUD so I googled "mirena hair loss" WOW is all I can say. Now after reading complaint after complaint of other symptons I'm realizing I had other issues going on that I attributed to the aging process but now I'm conviced they are mirena related...such as joint pains that are getting worse (my shoulder is almost useless I can't lift arm up or over my head), bloating that just came about this year but the worst by far is the hair loss.

No chest discomfort but I have read that it is amoung the list of symptoms other women have had. Yes, it could very well be just presenting in you now but I would look into the chest discomfort.

Yes! my most recent side effect is terrible leg pain. I have gradually felt worse over the last few years. Awful dizziness and fatigue. Feeling generally 'unwell'. I have had severe earache as well, which prompted my doctor to refer me to the Ear, Nose and Throat clinic. They cannot find a cause. I have been on medication for vertigo for 9 mths. I could not believe that so many women are experiencing side effects. My doctor told me again yesterday that there are no side effects? I have been sent home, yet again, to suffer. Have appointment next week to request removal - rather scared of side effects from that though!
