I was on it for 5 years 100mg a day and it FINALLY went away. Try and keep moving. Work around the pain if possible. It will subside rather quickly I promise. It just eats muscles and joints for lunch.
Thank God you got off easy, not to minimize what your going through but I've heard way worse in shorter periods of time. Try and wear a bracelet or have something on you that states you have an allergy to this med. If you ever have an emergency they tend to pump it in you. I'm sure you don't want that!!
Hang in there you will be fine. And to repeat, you gotta move!!
Thank you. I've been freaking out reading things on the Internet about prednisone and osteonecrosis.
You have calmed me down and I can relax knowing everything will be fine. I have been moving... walking in a lot of pain... but moving none the less.
You did the right thing to STOP taking this poison. I was prescribed prednisone at the maximum dosage requirnig that I take 30 pills in 10 days for a mild upper respiratory problem. (Had an allergic reaction to sheet rock dust in my home during some construction) Well my life was complete hell after 6 days so I stopped it cold turkey after calling my pharmacist and describing the side affects I was having: extended menstrual period to well over a week (that was back in Jan. 2009, since then my periods are irregular for the first time in my life in well over 30 years since starting them--they come now every 6 to 7 weeks instead of the previous predictable 28 day intervals), I was extremely emotional loud, and violent temper all of a sudden, and starting 2 months ago, I wake up each morning with painful and stiff hands with difficulty bending my fingers which last for about 10 minutes until I began moving about in my home. No doctor I have seen will admit the relationship of all of these symptoms (oh, and I forgot---my hair continues to thin in the top of my head and the front cow lick areas since taking the drug) to this drug. The doctor who presribed it to me never bothered to explain this powerful drug to me, neither did she follow proper protocol in her decision. I am a high blood pressure patient of hers and I have read that prednisore should not be prescribed to such patients--she never even mentioned this. My life is still hell even after she told me that the drug should have been out of my system within a week or two after discontinuing it. Lies, lies, lies. Doctors will tell you anything to up their profits and pad their pockets and pay off student loans. I am now a walking spokesperson to anyone who cares against the use of this drug!!!!
Wow! I cannot believe this drug is STILL on the market and is given to patients. I have read HORROR stories about what this drug does to people.
The most interesting thing for me is that I got an MRI for my hip pain. Found out the quadracep pulled away from the hip bone. My family dr. (who prescribed prednisone) told me to see an orthopedic doctor.
Funny thing... it's been almost three weeks off the prednisone and everyday my hip feels better. I am actually able to walk without pain (which I am so thankful for).
So... this tells me that that crap (prednisone) has gotten out of my system and my hip is healing. Because .... if I had an "injury", which my doctor said causes that.... I don't believe such an injury could heal so quickly. AND the most mysterious part.... I never injured it!!! I have thought long and hard about how I could have injured myself and I DID NOT. I was nursing a neck injury and not doing ANYTHING to irrate that.
It's all bull. The doctors want to cover up for thier mistakes. I went to three different doctors and NONE OF THEM will fess up that the prednisone did this to me. YET, I've read so many of these posts on the Internet from people who had horrible experiences with prednisone.... similar to what I have been through and all of you too!!
I agree with you Venusbutterfly100 about the lies, lies, lies. It's a shame but we HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES AND BE MORE VIGILANT about our health and what we put into our bodies.
Good luck to everyone and I wish you well.
Did your pain go away?
I was stung on the forehead by a hornet. Two days later my face was slightly swelling so went to DR. He prescribed an antibiotic and Prednisone. I just thought it was a mild anti inflammatory or something. He prescribed 40 mg per day for five days. I thought it was a little much, but he's a DR. right??
I took for 4 days. A day after I stopped taking it I started having a horrible pain in my left front hip while I was at work. I could not understand what it was as I had not had an accident, worked out etc. Progressively got worse. THat night could not sleep at all from the pain. Limping around with this pain that I have not ever experienced. I knew this wasn't normal and I am not one to take pills or have problems, so I decided to look up the side effects and low and behold, joint or bone pain possible.
The pharmacist tells me very unlikely since I have only taken for four days, but I know my body and know that it is this pill.
Also have black and frequent stool.
Pharmacist says should be out of body within three days of last consumption.
Any suggestions??
Thanks
