I had my mirena put in about 3 months ago. About a month later I started noticing hair loss; not to mention lower back pain, acne (mostly on my back, nose), abdominal pain, feeling tired, headaches, & depression. I have been dieting and exercising (extensively) for about 4 months now and have not lost a pound. The hair loss has really gotten out of control so I decided to check with a pharmacist and she suggested that I take Biotin 1000 and Womens One a Day every day. That same night I started googleing "Hair Loss", "Hair Loss Vitamins" and then I thought why not google "Mirena-Hair Loss". I am so happy that I was directed to this website. I was shocked to see how many woman are having the same symptoms I have. What I find most upsetting is that none of these side effects are mentioned on their website nor by the doctor. I already made an appointment to get this "horrible" thing out. Does anyone know if it hurts when it's removed?

It will hurt a bit, I had mine out May 10th. I wanted to squese something so I grabed the bed I was in. I was shocked at the pain, but it was quick and felt fine after. Just be smart and ask the nurse if she will hold your hand. ; )

I have had this thing put in twice. The first time it didn't stay in place and they had to pull it out. There was about as much pain as putting it in. I then had it put back in, and have since become very manic, and depressed. Some days I feel like crying, most days I feel like choking someone. I am always tired, I have gain about 40 pounds that I can't get rid of. I have been on one depression med after another, and it just dawned on me last night that all this has been going on since I have had the mirena. My periods are very light. I bleed for about five days but if's never the bright red, it starts like the end of a period spotty not heavy and very dark. That's a plus. I have flutter like movements all the time, but the worse thing is I am always so very angry. I am going to have this removed, its not worth it.

LADIES! LADIES! LADIES! I am reading everyone's posts and I am in tears. I thought I was crazy. I have had the worse 2 years of my life. I got the Mirena put in in 2007 after my daughter was born and have had it ever since. I had to have it removed in the begining 3 months after I got it because it feel down and the strings we almost hanging out of my body. My side effects have been similar to what you all have expressed. I am either so depressed I can't do anything, or so psycho that I can't have a conversation without lashing out. I have three little girls, and I can't bring myself to get out the bed on most days. I can't sleep at night, and when I do I am tired in the morning so I sleep all day and I am still tried when I have to peel myself out of the bed to eat. I have gained 40lbs that I can't get rid of no matter how much diet and exercise I have tried. I have been my OB GYN perscribed me Zoloft for the depression and another doctor changed me from Zoloft to Effexor. All that has done is allow me to do is remain at a low. As I stated I am either really sad or really angry there is no in between. I have had numbness on the right side of my body and my doctor doesn't know why. I was told that Mirena was a great alternative to getting my tubes tied and that it was better then the original IUDs. I was told there were no side effects, and that it was safe and could be removed at anytime. I never thought I would have these problems. I cry all the time, I am angry all the time, and dying seems so much better then feeling the way I feel everyday, and treating my family the way that I do. I am fat, I have pimples which I haven't had since I was 12, I weigh 224 pounds, I have no sex drive, I am always tired, I can never sleep, I get headaches, backaches. I am going to have mine removed too. I am thankful to know that I am not just plain crazy. I am so sorry that this happened to us. Something needs to be done about this. I am tired of the pharmacutical companies doing this to people. The only time anyone gets compensated is when someone dies. Well, I am not willing to wait until someone kills themselves, or someone they love. I know I feel that way a lot. It's my self control, and better judgement that keeps me from it. I have a tremendous support system around me, and I am thankful for that. I'll keep you all posted. Thank you for sharing.

surprisingly enough.... "hair loss & a little bit of weight gain" is the only side effects my gyn mentioned to me..... I figured a could stand to gain 5lbs and the hair loss didn't concern me so much.....

I would have never got it if I had found this website 1st..... it hurt more going in than it did coming out.... as the post above mentioned... if you cough while the dr tuggs, you might hardly feel a a things....

Good for us, deciding to remove it....our sanity & good health is Not For Sale!!!!!

Can anyone tell me how long it took before they had their Mirena removed for their hair to grow back? I had my removed on Tuesday and it seems like my hair is falling off more now.
