Hello everyone. I too am experiencing the same problems described here from Lisinopril. On January 1st of this year, ( 2009 ) I was taken to the hospital emergency room and admitted into the hospital under the assumption that I was having congestive heart failure. After a barrage of tests it was determined that I have diabetes and I was already taking hydrochlorothiazide ( 50 mgs ) for water retention. I was prescribed Lisinopril ( 10 mgs ) and told to cut my hydrochlorothiazide in half. Everything was fine for about a month and then it started... I had noticed on the bottle of Lisinopril that the one side effect in some patients was a dry cough but disregarded it since it didn't seem to be affecting me. After being on Lisinopril for a month, I began having this awful dusty feeling in my throat. It actually feels like someone has a bellows filled with dust which they've placed in my mouth and released a spray of dust which caused me to have this feeling of needing to cough almost to the point of choking. I don't have this cough all day long. It only happens intermittently throughout the day. Sometimes when I am standing or sitting but mostly when I am laying down in bed. I've also noticed that it seems to have somewhat of a consistent schedule. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I would take the pill every morning around the same time. However, I've stopped taking it about a week and a half ago and still seem to have somewhat of a pattern of when the coughs occur. Strange. Another thing I noticed is that I've seemed to have an excessive amount of saliva which would also cause me to choke at times. Have any of you experienced excessive saliva with this medication? I've been trying to lose weight without success and I'm wondering if Lisinopril has something to do with that as well. After reading all of these comments on this forum, I am wondering if doctors as well as The American Medical Association should take a closer look as to whether the side effects of this medication out weigh the benefits and/or what this medicine is supposed to be helping the patient with. So far I see no positive effects from this medication.

Yes, I did have excessive saliva. I entertain some with my guitar and folk songs. Sometimes the excess saliva would make me choke and mess up a song. The scratchy throat also kept me from hitting the high notes. I have stopped taking the drug and the conditions have improved a lot

I, too have had some other problems like a dry hacking cough. The mucus was alway clear. I would cough until I felt like I was about to vomit. I went to the drug store and purchased some over the counter drugs for coughing. After taking the over the counter drugs I continued this dry hacking cough. It only happened at certain times of the day and at night when I was about to fall asleep, and suddenly I could not sleep due to excessive coughing. I also noticed my body was getting very stiff and getting from sitting down in a chair to standing upright was painful, stiff, and difficult. I am struggling hard trying to lose weight and that is difficult. I cook and eat right , and I have joined the fitness center to excerise 3 days per week..I had a triple bypass on 7-31-07. After surgery, my 4 doctors put me on lisinopril. At first it was doing the job of better controlling my blood pressure. As of 7-16-09, I went to my family doctor for this dry hacking cough I was experiencing. I told him about my symptoms, and he said, "It is the lisinopril that's causing the cough.". He took me off two of my meds I was taking to contol my blood pressure.becase they both can cause the dry cough.. He was the one who put me on this medication after my heart surgery , and the other three doctors agreed with the meds he had put me on-and above all- my heart surgeon, and my cardiologist took a look at the meds and agreed the meds was okay for me to take them..

Bottom line-we need insurance in order to help with our cost of medical care. In the meantime, you better check out the medication your doctor has put you on. They do not look to see what meds you are presently taking and their possible side effects it has on your vital organs. We have to pay them for a service they render and like a revolving door we must check behind. them so we won't die from a medical mix up.
The doctors tend to forget about the medical code ethics they accepted to give patients the best of medical care. They seem to put emphasis on writing prescriptions and getting a healthy finanical kick back from pharmaceutical endorsements.. They need to realize that giving someone the wrong meds or a poor or unbalanced combination of meds can cause human beings to lose their life.to death..Does the pharmaceitical endorsements outweigh the doctor- patient concerns and wellness?

Yes, the constant salivation and throwing up froth up to 7 times per day, not to mention my doctor has made me undergo a number of test due to my unexplainable condition only to find absolutely nothing. Again, I have never been so sick in my entire life. I spent almost a month not being able to do anything and feeling that living was not worthwhile anymore. All of this I have attributed to this Lisinopril. Funny, but my doctor never raised the possibility of this medicine making me sick but now I refuse to take it. By the way, I have also lost the pleassure of eating, have absolutely no appetite whatsoever, I have to force myself to eat. Had I not researched Lisinopril on my own, I would have been subjected to many unecessary medical tests and so much sickness and unimaginable pain.
