Started on Doxy 200mg every 12 hours for Lyme Disease about 7 days ago and have had painful pins and needles sensation in my hands - on and off since about day 4. The top of the hands seem most affected and any exposure to water (and the resulting evaporative cooling) causes elevated sensation for about 1-2 hours. Any exposure to sun causes a painful sunburn-like sensation. I will be staying out of the sun and hope the pins and needles will go away soon.

I can't believe they didn't start you on a higher dose. My cousin currently has lyme disease and started with 600 mg. of this med. Now she is on three powerful antibiotics to kick lyme disease. She sunburned with sunscreen and long sleeves on and it left water blisters and the worst red irritation I have ever seen. Lyme disease is powerful. Good luck.

I can't imagine the side effects if the dose had been cranked up to 600mg :) I switched to Minocycline hydrochloride a couple of days following my post and the pins and needles went away. I took a high dose of the Mino for 3 weeks and have had no further Lyme symptoms since -- Sadly the tests for Lyme are so unreliable that it is difficult to test whether you have kicked the bacteria -- if you ever really do... There is a fantastic (albeit infuriating) documentary about Lyme disease that was just released call "Under our Skin" -- I highly recommend it... http://www.underourskin.com/
