Mirena Gynacologist, heavy bleeding, emergency department, progesterone, cramps

Posted at 6:40 AM on Jul 05, 2009 by mbond, #42791

My mirena landed me in the emergency department in hospital at 2am this week. I had my mirena fitted 16 months ago. I haven't had children, so perhaps that's why the fitting was so painful, with lots of bleeding and vomiting. I had periods that lasted 20 days each for the first 3 months, and it took 8 months for my period to drop to a lighter bleed lasting around 8 days.

I had cramps on and off during each month, and cramps after sex. i never felt really good, and my hair loss also seemed to be greater. i had it removed in the emergency department this week. apparently it had become dislodged (unusual after 16 months) and had cut a vein in my uterus. i had extremely heavy bleeding for 5 hours before going to hospital, where the gynecologist pulled it out immediately (painful, but quick). i've had heavy bleeding for a few days since, but it is easing up now, thanks to 3 prescribed progesterone pills a day. i have a friend who loves her mirena, but for me it did not work. my body seemed to fight it all the way.
