It seems that everyone is having similar symptoms. I have been on Doxy for about 14 days now and I'm feeling worse every day. I am on it because i had been bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. I don't know much about the disease but it has me freaked out. I started taking the antibiotic 2 weeks after being bitten; losing my balance and almost falling to the ground. I also had a couple of dizzy spells after eating. I seemed to feel a little bit better the first week of taking it but started feeling the side effects. It started out with the occasional dizzy spell then came the exhaustion, anxiety, depression, lower back aches, soreness in the back of my eyes, stiff neck, headache in the back of my head, flu like shivers, racing heart, and complete body aches. I also found out the hard way not to go out into the sun while on Doxy. Felt like the tops of my hands were being pricked with a million needles and burning. I wish I could stop taking the drug and be done, but I am already scared about the outcome of the Lyme disease. I hope I can feel normal again soon.

My husband is disabled with Lyme- so follow the doctor's directions. is well documented that when taking an antibiotic for Lyme, and it IS WORKING, the breakdown of the infection will make you feel sicker due to release of toxins before you feel better. So your problems may signal it is working. Beware that Doxy does not kill all Lyme vectors, they found new ones that don't respond to it- that is why my husband's was not cured. Doxy needs to be managed. Take it with LOTS of water to be sure you wash it all the way through your esophagus. It can stick in there and burn you causing symptoms that feel like chest pain/heart attack, and cause difficulty or impossible swallowing. Don't take it before bed, and be sure to stay upright (don't lay down) for two hours after taking it. If you do burn your esophagus (as I did) your doctor can prescribe medication to help (Proton pump inhibitors) which keep your stomach acid down until it can heal. Acid reducers can do this for you too- and a doctor can help with the right dosage. Take them all before you eat and they work better. Believe me- chronic lyme symptoms are worse, and there is no cure. Take care with the doxy, and check with another doc if nec. to make sure you don't need a different antiibiotic too. Remember, once you've had lyme- you will ALWAYS test positive because you now have the antibodies- which is all the lyme test looks for.

My husband starting taking this medicine 11 days ago. Recently, yesterday he started with burning in his fingers. He has had the dizziness and sick to his stomach. That part has gotten better since he started eating a little something after taking the pill, a cookie or cracker. the doctor said it was ok to eat something if that was the only way he felt better. We are just hoping that all this will go away when he is finish with the medication. The doctor says three more days and then I guess they will take blood test to see if the lime disease goes into remission. I guess you really don't ever get rid of it.
