I'm scared to death about having the iud removed. I know the strings have retracted up into the uterus. I keep thinking how will they get it out. really I'm thinking this is going to hurt BAD! It kind of makes me sick. I've had some really sharp pains around that area and I hope the iud is still where it was. You know not through something vital. Well lets go to bed and not sleep (insomnia). I sure hope this helps.

I had mine removed a few weeks ago and, while I can't tell you what it will be like for you, I found that having it taken out what sooo much better than having it put in! The doc just used long handled things and gently took the strings and very very gently and slowly pulled it out. Honestly - it really did feel a bit like removing a tampon. My advice is if you really hate the thing and want it out, don't let the fear of painful removal put you off! Even if it does hurt a bit, it's only likely to be for a very short time. Your call, though!
