We put our 3 year old son on Singulair 2 weeks ago for allergies. It seemed to be helping him. He is a very mild mannered kid that has never been an aggressive child and never bites or hits. In the last 4 days his mood has changed, and he has bitten 2 kids at school, hit one kid, bit and hit his grandpa, has been waking up with nightmares and has been very clingy to me (his mom). After reading the side effects of Singulair last night we contacted the pharmacist and told him what has happened and he told us to take him off the Singulair immediately and contact our Pediatrician. I am waiting for a phone call back now. I am saddened that a medication for Allergies can cause such a personality change.

I am very sorry to hear of your son's ill effects with the singular. I have a son that has suffered from severe allergies since the age of 2 he was put on several different things none of which worked for him accept singular he is now eighteen and doing great what I found out in my years of dealing with this is this: as soon as possible have your son's tonsils and adenoids removed I guarantee that you will see a miracle. My son had night terrors and cranky behavior hitting people and then crying about it almost as if he felt bad because he couldn't control himself and of course it killed me because people were only seeing him act out not the sweet boy he was. I spent years trying to figure it all out and I noticed that when his allergies were at a peak is when I would see the behavior changes I did not take the advise of Dr.s about the tonsilectomy and adnoidectomy until he was 14 but after reading an article in the medical column about children with allergies not doing well in school because of sleep deprivation they were suggesting this operation and let me tell you he is living proof that they were right! Keep it in mind and do some research on it maybe it can save you and your son years of misery especially before he starts school. Good luck & be well.
