I am 26 years old. I've been on warfarin for almost eight years. I wish I had seen a site like this eight years ago when I started on warfarin (after DVT and P.E) I may have had some insight into the hellish two years that were to follow: hair-loss, depression, weight-gain. But I attributed all this to stress (it was pre-med varsity and I was under a lot of pressure academically). Anyway, now my life is more settled, I eat right, exercise furiously 5 times a week...but I have digestive problems. Bloating, gas, overall discomfort in my stomach almost every night. I've cut out milk, wheat, coffee...nothing. But tonight I started thinking...could it be the warfarin? Does anyone experience or know about possible side-effects of warfarin on the digestive system, and does anyone have some useful advice????

Well am i glad i'm not the only one. I'm 22 years old on warfarin for the last year and a half. i had a DVT in my left leg and PE. My life has turned upside down in the last year and half. I've gained weight, losing hair getting facial hair, got acne like what is going on!!!! I had my appointment with my specialist last week hoping to get the all clear but now they have found something in my blood that will cause it to clot anti fillibodies or something like that i stop listening when i didnt get the good news... i hate the thought of been on warfarin for the rest of my life like you's i dont think it agrees with me and when i say this to the doctor he says its not the medication. My GP has tried to put me on different medication but again the specalist wont agree. I've looked up natural remedies and herbal but to be honest i'm afraid to try them encase they dont work and as we all know i dont want to go through another DVT or PE. Anyone that has found something that helps or tried please let me know..

Hiya Im 19 and i just came off warfarine last week after having a PE.
I also got terrible hair loss, and iv ended up having my hair cut short as it just looked like rats tails. I have noticed weight gain very slighty also, But with my bloodclot i had TB phnumonia and a hole in my lung so i lost plenty of weight through that, so gaining a little hasnt bothered me too much.
I noticed what you said about your bloated and gassy feeling especially at night, and from experiance it sounds very much like IBS, irratable bowel syndrom, which i also suffer from.
Its nothing to serious and is stress related, do you suffer from anxiety?
Im not saying take my word for it, i would suggest explaining this to your dr but your symptoms are very similar to those of IBS. Hope all goes well. xx

P.s just to explain with IBS they will just give you tablets to steddy your condition, but when the stress stops so does the IBS in most cases. take care x
