I've had similar bloating problems on Prednisone. I'm a pretty skinny build, but on prednisone my belly got huge and puffed out in front and on the sides. I also got really plugged up in spite of extra fiber supplements to try and keep my bowels moving. Part of it may be because the prednisone screws up your ability to regulate minerals, causing you to retain sodium and flush out calcium, magnesium, potassium, and some important vitamins. Nobody told me to restrict my salt intake while on prednisone or increase my vitamins/minerals, for which I fault the narrow focus of the doctors: rather than treating the whole person they tend to only consider the symptom they're trying to get rid of. After 2 months of 60mg/day prednisone it has now been cut to 40mg/day and the bloating is down and my bowels are moving again. I also increased vitamin/minerals from a single one-a-day complete to 3 a day (on advice from the UM Medical Center website drug interactions database) and increased my calcium and reduced my salt, all of which i think have helped with the side effects. So part of your bloating may be fluid retention in and around the gut, and may be relieved somewhat by reducing salt and increasing other minerals. When you get off the prednisone, or even start to taper the dose, it should go away too. Just sharing my experience and online research, I'm not a doctor.
