I had something similar happen. I only had the Mirena for 5 months. Had it removed at my annual check up, like you, my Dr did not question my side effects. Had my annual mammogram 2 months later and got a call back for the first time in my life. (I was 43 at the time). Due to a "dense area" I had to go to a full-scale breast center and have a spot compression and ultrasound. Spot compression was fine but the ultrasound revealed two cysts, one in each breast. The radiologist said that they could biopsy them right then and there. I decided to mention that I had just had the Mirena removed and wondered if the hormone (you know, the one that stays local) could have any impact on this. The radiologist said that her opinion was that there was a 99% chance that the Mirena caused it. Due to this, I decided, with my Dr's blessing, to wait seeing as I was going to have to go on a 6 month mammogram schedule now anyway. I have now had 3 of these mammograms and ultrasounds....the cysts are still there but have not changed at all so we are just watching them. I am now back to an annual rotation on the mammograms. Since I had my baseline at 35 and annuals ones starting at 40, and never had this issue pre-Mirena, I do feel that this had some impact. Hopefully yours is nothing to be concerned about but I'm glad that your Dr is sending you to have it checked out. Make sure the radiologist knows about having had the Mirena. Take care.
Thank you so much for your input! I will definitely let them know. I'm so glad yours had a good outcome and it makes me feel much better!
Please think long and hard before jumping on the ESSURE bandwagon. I have spent the past 9 months searching for a doctor or practice that can successfully REMOVE my ESSURE implants without my needing a hysterectomy. I am not seeking this to have more children (42 yrs old with 2 kids I adore), just want to get these "coils" out of my tubes. I had the procedure done 2 yrs ago with no pain or complications. Within 3 months my periods changed (much worse in terms of length, volume and cramping) and I have steadily gained weight (20-25 lbs with the steady increase starting about 4 months after the procedure. I am a vegan and do not eat a whole lot that makes a person gain weight but find I have to virtually starve for a few days to drop any weight. Sex drive went way down over time as well. There are clearly no easy solutions out there ladies but very little feedback available on Essure so I wanted to share mine to help others make an informed decision.
Not sure if this is where I should post, but....
My wife (Cassandra) had the Essure done in October '03, after the birth of our son Alexander. Since then, our love life has gone downhill (from 1-2 times a day to... well, it's been almost 7 months now.), she has massive migraines and takes prescription meds for them, she has heavy, heavy periods with almost giant bloodclots, she's constantly snapping at something either I or our son does, she's always either tired or manic-happy, she has random spurts of memory loss where she will plan on telling me something, she'll forget about it, and later swear up and down she told me. I'm not sure how much of this has to do with the Essure, but I've read some stuff and it all seems to fit with it.
