I am a 25 year old female who at 24 had never had any experience ...

I am a 25 year old female who at 24 had never had any experience with birth control other than a quick prescription to a generic hormone to take care of a long period at 16 (due to stress.) Only a few pills were taken and I was fine. Now, at 25 I have been on YAZ for a year. I began taking it because I became sexually active at 24. Why? Well, I was mature both mentally and physically. I have had friends who became sexually active at a young age and who started birth control young. The side effects were pretty dramatic. I had seen a slim friend gain a whole lot of water weight. She even said it was the patch and later monthly injection causing the problem but the side effect was well worth the pregnancy prevention. I was against the use of birth control due to my preconceived notion of horrible side effects. However, once the monogamous sexual activity began I knew that I needed to take something. I had heard about YAZ and knew that it was something new and different. A different hormone used for prevention. I researched the pill and looked into any side effects. The posts I found seemed a little too ridiculous. I decided to find actual accounts and spoke to a co-worker who had been using YAZ for awhile. In fact, the majority of females I know use the product with no problem. Thus, after my yearly checkup I requested YAZ. My gyno welcomed the suggestion and even gave me several packs for free. It’s been a year without a problem. However, this morning I was hounded by my mother because there is a warning and lawsuit against YAZ and YASMIN (seen by a commercial-lawsuit.) This is due to severe side effects and death associated with blood-clots (when presented with heart disease, diabetes, etc.) I am a healthy 25 year old that frequents the gym weekly. I do not smoke. I drink every now and then. NO SIDE EFFECTS. My period starts after the 3rd pill is taken. It is quick and simple. I enjoy being able to plan things around my period. Cramps are light compared to what I use to go through. I can take one Ibuprofen the day of the third non-active pill and not feel a thing. I use to have horrible leg cramps and now I have no problem. My pre-menstrual mood has improved and I think it is because my period is no longer a strong factor in my life. I use to dread it and now I welcome it. I do not have any skin issues, no bloating, and no weight gain. Heartburn occurrence which is slim to none is similar to what I would have had before YAZ. I was appalled to find this site and to discover that people are having problems. I do not understand why people are so quick to blame this pill on everything. It seems like a lot of users who are posting on this site are extremely young. The body is still growing and maturing at 18 and even into the early 20’s. In my late teens, I was extremely moody and stressed due to college, etc. Any hormonal regulation then would have probably put me overboard! I am going for my yearly check up next month and will discuss this lawsuit with my gyno. I am concerned about this lawsuit. More importantly, I am concerned that this pill will be taken off the market. Call me a statistic but I like YAZ and would recommend it.

I'm glad that you have found something that works for you. But some drugs affect individuals differently. I started on Yaz 4 months ago, and have seen some weird side effects, and I am not being too "quick" to blame these on the pill. I'm 28, mother of 3, and on Yaz for heavy periods. I have always been thin, fairly upbeat, and have always had a normal and healthy sex drive. Now- shocking weight gain, mood swings, and NO sex drive. I for one know its the meds. I agree with you - people need to be careful and not automatically blame meds for things that they might be causing with their lifestyle. But honestly, in my case, Yaz is no good.

Ya. My sister had a stroke this past weekend due to the pill. That's coming straight from the doctor. She does not smoke, drink or partake in any recreational drugs. She is healthy.

I ask you this. If this is all "ridicolous" then why is the manufaturer, Bayer, very close to facing a 20 million dollar class action lawsuit? Please be very cautious. My sister is now going through tests and has high blood pressure and many other things. Like I said, she was healthy two years ago before she started the Yaz pill.

Dear child I almost lost my healthy 17 year old daughter who like you wanted to be a responsible well informed woman. She went on YAZ and had a stroke by her second cycle on this pill. She fought to relearn how to speak, what objects were and missed her senior year of high school. When other kids her age were care free she was learning everything and using depends. Her right front temporal lobe was destroyed which is the speach region. I hope you never experience one thing that touches your life as ours has been touched. I have not looked into law suits as of yet. My daughter now 20 years old is still affected in her day to day life. I wish you well. mrs.medicke

It is great for you to not have any symptoms - however - i'm not as you stated one of the younger women - but a woman of 41, with 3 children - a job in ministry and a very active life - never a day of anxiety or depression in my life... For the past 2 1/2 years I have been having major anxiety attacks that leave me on the floor trying to get air, chest pain, night time muscle tic's that leave me too sore to move the next day - I was put on 4 different anti-depressants - sent to speak with therapists - the list goes on - that my 19 year marriage stayed in tact is due to my husband's patience and love... I could feel nothing - was too sad to believe that my work mattered any longer - was fearful for my children constantly... I was blessed to have someone point out the YAZ commercia and did some research. I was put on YAZ in March of 2006 - and my first major anxiety attack was in April of 2006 - and it just went down hill from there. No dr ever suggested that this pill was to blame. I have been off YAZ now for almost 3 months - and no longer have fits of struggling to breath on a daily basis - not having anxiety attacks - I feel a joy and peace that have been missing for over 2 1/2 YEARS.... So while you may feel that this web site may ruin your access to this pill -- please think of those who may have these things happen to them - you are lucky - but there are others - like myself who were not so lucky...
