I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Do you really need thyroid meds? Do you have symptoms or have you had surgery, or is it just a doctor reading test results? If it is not a bad case, maybe just try taking iodine in the form of kelp.
If you go to a Natropathic physician they will give you the natural tyhroid medication. They may run some tests on you first so be prepared. Good Luck!
Thank you very much for your responses, both twobitter and freedancer. I would have replied sooner, twobitter, but could not sort out the site - major brain fog!
I did have an appointment with my doctor about two months ago, and lucked out - I met with the PA instead of the doctor. I explained my symptoms, and she was helpful and open to natural thyroid. She said they have many patients who cannot take Synthroid, and take natural instead. I asked for Nature-Throid, and so far I am doing MUCH better. Not optimized yet, but getting there.
I did try iodine, and found some improvement, so I still take that, one Iodoral a few times a week, and it does seem to make a difference.
I also started taking selenium, which supposedly helps convert T4 to T3, which is what I think the problem was. Some research indicates that very low T3 can cause clinical depression, so perhaps that is what happened to me. Synthroid is T4 only, and perhaps my body just has trouble converting T4 to T3.
All I know is, I'm doing much better on natural thyroid replacement, and I encourage others having trouble with synthetics to do everything they can to get on the natural. It just might make a big difference.
Hey, thanks for the update. Is Nature-Thyroid perscription or over the counter?
Hi twobitter. Nature-Throid is prescription only.
