I had Mirena inserted in Nov '08. I bled constantly for 6 weeks after and then nothing. I only have occasional spotting. At first I thought this was great - no period! (woohoo!!) but now I actually miss my period. It's not natural not to have a period! I've been experiencing a lot of side affects that I was attributing to turning 40 but after reading the symptoms others have been experiencing, maybe it's not due to my age. I've had problems with large ovarian cysts. I constantly have pain in my ovaries which I'm thinking it must be more cysts. I've gained weight and can't loose it no matter how hard I try. I have no energy and no interest in a lot of things I used to love to do. I have pain in my knees, pain in the joints of my fingers as well as mood swings, depression, anxiety, memory loss. I recently went to the doctors because I felt I had a constant lump in my throat - I went for an ultrasound and found I have multiple cysts on my thyroid. I'm not sure if this is all related to the Mirena, but I don't remember feeling this crappy before I had it. I'd like to have it removed immediately but I can't get an appt' with the GYN until September!

Ive had so juch misery with it I had it removed last week after 6 months, all the typical problems listed including some of the ones you noted. Im 44 & was in excellent health due to lifestyle before Merina & then Wham.Plus despite regular exercise 4-5 days weekly & healthy diet, I puddged up about 15lbs around the middle, hips & thighs, weight just kept going up despite my best efforts.Post removal I had a week of gushing blood & clots that has stopped now after 12 days & I am very tired & run down - but still I feel much better than with the Merina in.I weighed less each day after removal & now its a full 5l bs less, which is more than just the appearance since I can wear clothes I couldnt get buttoned & zipped a week ago.i would call & tell them you think you may have infection since its mandatory that they see you right away.I didnt know this- I called seriously thinking that was the case & was told that it was mandatory that they have a look at it right away & by the time I arrived I had decided enough of this thing,I just want it out.I saw where a lady posted a Canadian disclousure for side effects of Merina & if what I saw was authentic, Im furious, because they disclosed many more of the side effects than they tell us here with the pamplet. For example where we are told no significant weight gain, hers said average of 15 lbs weight gain & where ours says may have some spotting, hers said average user reported 16.4 days of bleeding per month for the first year after insertion. Thats a big difference & I dont know why we dont have laws that require full disclousure in the US.

I miss my period too!!! lol I have had my mirena in for almost 4 years, and i have not even spotted since the day i had it put in. I dont feel healthy without my period, i have forgotten what it was like to have one!! I am planning on getting mine taken out and i hope nobody gives me any trouble! I have also experienced weight gain, headaches, bad body aches, and fatigue. I didnt really occur to me that it could be my Mirena until now!!
