I have been on Prednisone 40mg x 5 days and am now reducing to 30mg x 5 days followed by a 10mg reduction q 5 days until I am off the med. I have read your blogs and my heart goes out to you all. Has anyone lost their sense of taste? I can only taste salty things, but just the salt only. I have the nausea, stomach pains, depression, mood swings, inability to focus and a tremendous amount of 'floaters' in my eyes. In general, I am extremely drug sensitive, but the Prednisone has brought me to a place I don't want to be. I welcome your input on the sense of taste issue. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi Winny

I am 54 yrs old Native American Indian Lady. I first lost my hearing on my right ear back in 1994 - had vertigo twice and my Doctor started to give me meclizine and sudafed. It help me for about 10 yrs and in 2004 I lost my hearing on my left ear. When this happened I started to get my vertigo more often - it got to the point where it started to interfere with my work and it gave me anxiety and panic attack - now I have a fear of doing alot of things I use to enjoy. I went to a Specialist in Santan Fe New Mexico and they gave me an ENG testing or balance testing -did some lab work and the result came back and said i had Auto Immune Disorder which was causing my vertigo or my ears were being attacked by my body. In Jan. 14, 2009 mh ENT Doctor started me on 69 mg of Prendisone for about two months before I met with a Reumatlogist to start me on another drug which was methotraxate I take 7 pills every friday evening along with folic acid everyday which I take i the morning. The Pren pills gave me some bad side affects such as puffy face, weight gain, jittery feeting, mood swing, irratable and lost interest in the things I like to dol IT did help my vertigo stop - but still got them a few times even tho I was taking both drugs. Now I am not taking the pren pills for about a month now and develope joint pains and makes me miserable. My ENT Doctor should provided more information about the pren drug before lettingme take them. All this problem of taking these pills because of my hearing loss which gave me vertigo. I do not like getting the vertigo and hated it. Right now I am searching for another Doctor that can help me with what i am going through - also want to talk to my Doctor about not take the methotraxate anymore. The only drug that helps me calm down is Diazepam which I only take it when I get the vertigo or anxiety attack. Hope to hear from you and perhaps you might give me some answeres. I am also seeking help from my traditional medicine people. Hope to hear from you - Marge
