I've had Mirena for almost a year and I'm wondering if there is anyone who's suffered adverse effects that didn't start until much later. I had the usual severe cramping and excessive bleeding for a few months after I got it, but my period has been pretty regular since then. I do have sharp stabbing pains (I'm guessing they're cramps) off and on. Very occasionally they are just terrible, but normally it's just like a quick shock every now and then. I can tell that there are extra hormones being put into my body because I have experienced all the stereotypical period side-effects (moodiness, cramping, cravings) much more than I ever did before I got Mirena. About two months ago I was sure I was pregnant - I had all the symptoms - but three pregnancy tests all came out negative. I'm not experiencing anything bad enough to get it out. So far it has actually been great. I feel terrible for everyone suffering all these severe side-effects. I guess I'm just wondering if these symptoms show up sooner or if they can start a year or more after Mirena has been in. Please let me know if there's anything I should be watching for. Thanks.

Hi there,
I had my Mirena inserted in 11/06 and the sever side effects did not start until about a year afterwards. My symptoms include acne and dark facial hair on my chin and jawline, sore breasts, weight gain and bloat, migraines, irritability, low sex drive, eczema, lower back pain. I am finally having mine out in about 1 month. It has been 2 1/2 years since I had it inserted and it is getting worse and worse. Good Luck and remember every woman is different.

I was on mirena about a year and half. Had it taken out in June. I didnt start getting all the bad symptoms untill mabye this past Dec, or Jan. Just wanted to tell you I cant count how many pregnancy tests I took while on mirena. I felt, and looked pregnant and even felt spasms in my stomach like a baby was moving . I had the worst headaches everyday almost. So tired that I didnt feel like I could even take care of my kids. It was such hell. But its been 2 months since its been removed and I feel so much better. Good lick!!

I hope you get to read my post as I notice it's been awhile since you posted your. I'm no doctor or RN, but I hope this can help you. I have had the mirena going on 3 years now and started getting the really bad symptoms (acne, depression, severe anxiety, mood swings, insomnia, the weight gain started almost immediately) about 6 months ago, my niece also started to get some of the more severe symptoms afters about 2 years, and as I read I notice that many of the women seem to have the symptoms around the same time of course it varies from person to person thought. I loved the mirena but this year has been the worst of my life. I have spent thousands on medical bills, have been diagnosed with severe anxiety, in which I have had severe panic attacks, I was admitted into an outpatient therapy group, they wanted to put me in a psychiatric hospital at one point... I could go on and on, this is not meant to scare you, but to let you know that it is possible. I am praying that this is not your case as it is a "patient to patient" basis. Some people have a great experience with the mirena. I will pray that you do have a better time with it than I have
