The same thing happened to me! About 3-5 months after insertion, I experienced dizziness, headaches, and nausea. It landed me in the hospital ER twice and neurologists, ENTs, etc. Then I found this website and discovered that the MIRENA could be the culprit.
I had it removed exactly 2 months ago. The migraines are GONE!!! But the dizziness still comes and goes. I hear it can take up to a year for all the hormones to leave your system.
I suggest removal to those experiencing symptoms... especially MIGRAINES with vertigo... I'm a student doctor and have researched vertigo migraines and found there is a 7 fold increased risk of ischemic stroke... especially if hormones are involved. DO NOT TAKE ANY "triptans"... they are the usual anti-migraine prescriptions but they can worsen the chances of ischemic stroke in this case.
Hang in there, do research, and make a decision that's right for you.
I'm always here....
I've had dizziness as well. Sometimes I'll be sitting at my desk at work and I will start to feel dizzy and light headed.
I get the same thing!!! I've had Mirena for over a year and I've had countless side effects that I am just now realizing are caused by this stupid IUD... I've been to several different types of doctors for my many different symptoms, like dizziness and headaches, and stomach problems, high blood pressure, weight gain... and the list goes on and on, I'm not kidding! I am scheduled to have mine removed in a few days, and I couldn't be happier!
Hi, I also had Mirena placed in Feb 2008, and 2 weeks later I began having Grand Mal seizures! I have had migraines occasionally in the past, but never a seizure in my life! I now am on heavy duty anti-epileptic medication, but still having seizures, and in the process of trying to find a physician to remove the mirena (I do not have insurance), but I can totally relate to your problems, and congrats on getting it removed! I have dizziness, confusion, migraines, mood swings, libido problems... hell I am fixing to just go yank the stupid thing myself and say "to hell" with it!
Thank you everyone for all your posts. I have made an appt to get it out in a couple weeks. Hopefully most of the problems will go away!!
