Let me start by saying congrats on your sucess with the mirena implant but I must also say GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE!!!!!! Just because you haven't had these problems doesn't mean real women like myself that have no ties to any drug companies don't ( By the way how do we know you don't work for the company that manufactures the mirena) I'm actually a cosmetologist which made the impact of the side effects of the mirena even worse. You have to look good if you want anyone else to think you can make them look good. I'm sure on top of all the horrible side effects I have had( severe acne, extreme hair loss, migraines, back pain, abdominal cramping, anxiety, mood swings, vomiting just to list a few) I've also lost income.I brought up these symptoms to my doctor who, like you, didn't believe the implant was the cause. So I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone else who posted their side effects on this site and let me know it was the cause of all of this.
a REAL person-Lawton,Ok
It's a shame that you are bad mouthing this website that women with real life threatening side effects are trying to warn other women what they may go through. I'm 23 years old and never had any health issues until i got the Mirena. I got it inserted on in March 2006 and it was fine for the first year i thought. Then in early 2007 i began having tingling in my hands, fingers, feet, and toes. Then came the butterfly rash across my face. I went to so many doctors and no one knew what was wrong with me. In May 2008 i was diagnosed with Lupus. I was hospitalize eight times in 2008 alone. I lost alot of hair, gained weight, suffer from muscle spasm, joint pain in every joint, weakness, photo sensitive, low libido, acne, cist, depression, and the list go on. To remind you I am only 23 years old and felt like i was in my sixites and dieing quickly. I have a 4 year old daughter that i didn't have any energy to even play with. On August 13, 2009 i had my Mirena removed cause i just didnt think i really had Lupus cause no one in my family has ever had it or do we know of anyone who has died from it. Well it's been almost two weeks since it's been removed and i feel great. My skin is clearing up, barely any muscle spasms, no joint pain, more energy, and i have a sex drive again. The only thing I'm scared to do is to go outside without a broad rim hat, since i suffered from sun sensitivity which causes severe skin burn where i would have to be hospitalized. I go next month to have blood work done to see if i ever did have Lupus or was it just the Mirena. So you may being doing great with the Mirena right now for the little 4-5 months you've been on it but it took a little of year for me to start noticing side effects. Really, i lost 2 years of my life because of this thing and been through so much. So to me this website is not joke. It allows me to express myself and get my story across to other women who may be going through the same thing and never really thought the Mirena can be capable of doing something like this. I'm glad you have no side effects but it's only been 4 months. To all the other women who are having side effects keep posting so other women can be aware and THANK YOU for sharing. For the record I have no ties to any drug company. I am a military spouse stationed in Misawa, Japan.
I am sorry you feel the need to mock what is a serious topic. I too lost weight for the first 8 - 10 months after the Mirena was inserted, in fact I was running much greater distances the more weight I lost.
Then it all went bad for no reason. Even though I continued with my usual exercise regime, no change to diet my weight gradually increased. I now have a whole wardrobe of clothes I hope to be able to wear again soon.
My Mirena was inserted in April 2007 and I was so happy, yes it was the most convenient contraception. After discussions with my doctor in regards to changes in my weight, personality, motivation and general interest in anything etc etc (no acne or hair loss though), my doctor didnt question me in fact told me her own two sisters had just had the Mirena removed for the same reasons. Hence my Mirena was removed immediately.
It has now been almost 4 weeks since removal and I know it will take time but I am on the comeback!!!!
I really do hope your experience continues to be positive but be aware of the possibilities and speak with your doctor the moment you notice yourself changing.
All drigs don't work for everyone. The reason this site has so many negative posts is because it is the only place to air our views
My first Mirena coil was excellent and i sang it's praises,But as soon as i had my second one inserted then my problems started,
Weight gain,no sex drive, tiredness thinning hair.now they are thinking that the ihh i have may have been triggered by the mirena, though i guess no one is ever going to proove it was.
I have to tell you that a year ago I would have agreed with you...I had mine inserted April 2008. Now, August 2009, I am losing hair by the handfuls (daily!), am experiencing anxiety like I am losing my mind, and my face is breaking out like I am 15 again. My sister-in-law experienced the same thing, just not as long after having it inserted. I am going to get it removed before I start seeing bald patches...I hope the hair loss stops soon after I have it removed, the hair loss is pretty frightening. (BTW, I have already been to the Dr to rule out any other medical issues via blood tests and the like).
I am very happy for you that you didnt or havent yet had any negative side effects. It is true, however, that every womens body is not the same. I am a REAL WOMAN who found this site because i was looking for answers as to why I had been feeling so strange. I too have had almost all the symptoms that these other women are describing, and its a relief to know that I am not the only one. I think this site was started to help women find answers about the Mirena that they werent getting from doctors. Its alright if you want to be negative about this site, but are you sure your reaction isnt from the mirena? Lol. Oh and by the way, I didnt have symptoms until a year after insertion, be patient.
Unfortunately this web site is real. And it took me quite a while to start having all of these side effects. I'm happy that it's working for you, though.
I am also glad that the Mirena is working for you. But this site is not a joke. Just because it works for doesn't mean it does for everyone else. You should be a little more considerate of other people's opinions.
Oh, and by the way, I had mine inserted January 2008 and my problems are getting worse every month. Let us know in 6 months if you still Love the Mirena.
