HI, I had mirena put in during Jan 2008. I had it taken out on Sunday after presenting to casualty on Friday morning with heart palpitations, shaking and heaviness in left arm. The casualty doctors ran tests but couldn't see what the problem was. I've experienced increasing heart palpitations to the point where they are every day - and several times per day. I've had my thyroid checked. I'm 36 years old, not overweight although I've definitely put on weight and not been able to shift it, since having this IUD. I've been moody and incredibly tired. My skin hasn't been great also. I have four kids and so know my body well and know how quickly I normally bounce back after giving birth. Since Ive had the mirena, my body has felt like it's been pregnant. I've done numerous pregnancy tests. It's only been a couple of days since Ive had the IUD out but already my mood is better - like it always was before I had the IUD. My stomach doesn't look as bloated but more importantly, the heart palpitations have reduced. I can't say with any certainty, YET, that any of my symptoms have been caused by the IUD but I will give my body a couple of months to recover and monitor the progress. The doctors told me mirena couldn't have caused all of the above......time will tell.
