Yes, this is an strong medication w/ the potential for deadly reactions!! I took this 10 years ago, and it almost killed me! I found out I am very allergic. It had made such a impact on my life I am still googling it on occasion to see other peoples reactions. I was one of the lucky ones, the doctor said. I was a healthy 33 year old with a sinus infection, and the Bactrim given to me by a PA filling in for my Prim. Care DR,could have killed me. After 3-4 days of taking it I was admitted to the hospital for 5 days to receive high doses of steroids to detox my body of the drug. Thanks to the FAST reaction of my dotor and an infectious disease specialist, I was admitted to the hospital immediately and had every test done imaginable. At time of admission my bp was very very low, and my liver was shutting down. Upon arriving I had 3 nurses meet me at the elevator, and they started taking blood out of each arm and hooking me up to iv bags. I was getting the royal treatment from the nurses because ICU was already full, and my mini ICU was in a private room. -My fever was so high I was put on a cooling blanket, and turned every 20 minutes. My body was so sore, I could not move without pain! My skin burned off, peeling everywhere, yuck! All the tests done were negitive, leaving a severe allergic reaction to the Bactrim to blame! --Weeks after recovering, and 8 thousand dollars in hospital bills later, the specialist said "we are lucky we didn't lose you!" If you were an older person, you could have died. YIKES!!! I had 2 toddlers at home, and to think a cheap antibiotic could have left them without a Mommy, make me so angry, still! BEWARE...BEWARE...BEWARE!!! Listen to your body-STOP if you have any funny side effects at all! They could quickly turn much worse NEVER take this dru again if you have had a bad reaction, the next time will be worse.
