I got the Mirena after my 2nd child was born, and I had it for 8 months, then had it taken out because I had all the symptoms. Plus, though I loved not having a period, I knew it probably wasnt very safe for my body- don't mess up nature, you know? Well, we were careful, excpet for this one night, and it was 21 days from the date of removing the IUD that I got pregnant. We knew right when I got pregnant...that was our only "unsafe" night. Well, I got the Mirena after my 3rd child again, because I take medication for Psoriasis and I absolutely must not get pregnant on that med because it can cause serious birth defects, etc. I have take more pregnancy test than you can imagine, because I have had EVERY symptom of pregnancy- nausia, cravings, weight gain, unusual acne, very sore breasts, all the things i went through with all 3 of my pregnancies. I am not pregnant, nor do I want to be, but it's just the lovely side affects of the Mirena. It is very convenient, not having to worry about birth control pills or condoms, but for some people it just isn't worth the trouble.
Yea i loved mine for the first year or two .... then i got terrible acne on my face and back and out on twenty pounds even with eating decent and going to the gym. Not to mention the mood swings.... Getting mine taken out today and I will never look back.
