Amen! Very well said. I too have lost a lot of faith in most doctors. What a shame. They have gone from healers to drug pushers. I sure hope your girlfriend is doing better.
Both of you are right. . . . . I am a victim of Lipitor. I no longer trust drs. , especially since I know that the drs. and the drug co's are doing a SCAM on the anti-cholesterol drugs . . .it is all about $$ and people suffer. In reality, your mind/body needs cholesterol to function properly.
All your fears are totally unsterstood with very valid points from all of you. 1st off, Don't make the mistake of stopping all your meds and starting from square 1. Many medications prescribed cannot be discontinued in that manner. Its dangerous thinking like that that will cause you harm.
2nd, as far as listed POTENTIAL side effects, they are nothing more than that. Some people are much more sensitive than others, thats where good communication with your Doctor comes in. If the doctor isn't receptive to your needs, get a different one. If you take a look a Tylenol's potential side effects, there are about 20 of them. Cholesterol medications ARE needed for patients who cannot control it with simple diet and exercise, and when they are taken there are so many that think they can eat what they want while taking them. Not how that works. They still work with the diet and exercise. Yes your body needs cholesterol HOWEVER, to high of cholesterol just makes you a higher risk for Heart attack or stroke. To think of a Dr as nothing more than a drug pusher ( not that they dont exist) isn't very ummm, well lets just say, unless the Dr can do some sort of Physical intervention to lower your cholesterol, you have to use education and medication. A doctor is only as good as the tools provided to them, besides their education. Dont give a the guy building your house a rock to pound nails with. And you are right, there is a lot of money involved and what is really sad besides the patients that have to pay all out of pocket for their RX, and the others that have to wait on approval if the insurance they have wont initially cover it. In that respect the doctors ability to properly treat theirs patients gets hindered by the insurance companies telling them how to practice medicine.
And yes, thats why they call it "practicing" medicine. Not one is perfect, and got it all right.
With the taxes we all pay, Health care should be FREE!! Yes I am in the medical field, and have been for 20 years. I see good people with these issues quite often and it is heart breaking.
