I am also 50 and was looking into the ablation for heavy frequant periods when my Dr. suggested the Mirena. I jumped at it becasue she made it sound so darn perfect ( no side effects) besides I was not thrilled about the entire surgery thing if I could aviod it. Anyway, it was not for me as I had so many side effects I couldnt function - just felt crappy all the time, sharp stomach and back pains it just goes on and on. I had it removed and am feeling uch better. Not sure if my periods will be changed by all this considering everything my body went through but I will spend a lot more time looking into ablation before I have it done. I read that there could be problems with inaccurate paps after someone has the ablation and since I have a family hisory of cancer I will need to check into that further. Are you having other symptoms?
