I have been taking the generic equivalent of Wellbutrin for nearly a year. A few months ago I noticed my hair is thinning on top, in front. It has steadily become worse. I finally did a search on Wellbutrin, hair loss and found this site. I will start weaning myself off it now! Losing my hair will make me more depressed than I was to begin with. Can anyone tell me, does the hair grow back? How long does it take?

Wellbutrin and RECENT SEVERE Hair Loss??

SINCE THESE POSTS ARE FAIRLY RECENT - DID THE COMPANY CHANGE THE FORMULARIES OR CHANGE THE INGREDIENTS - WITHOUT NOTICE ??!!!

If you need to stay on antidepressant, have your PCP check if the formulary for Budeprion SR recently changed. I liked the fact that I could lose weight and feel better - until now - memory and hair loss are too stressful and counteract my reasons for the meds. I am going to try more natural products and hope for the best.

I recently started experiencing more severe amounts of hair loss. PCP offered usual responses - getting older - hair styling products - coloring ..on and on.Never once did he advise me it may be the wellbutrin (Budeprion sr 150mg - 1 X day).

I also have a thyroid problem, hair loss typical symptom of thyroid issues so we just assumed it was thyroid related. I was on meds too high and too low and have been topsy turvy with thyroid levels for about a year - however this hair loss was much different and more severe and so upsetting.

An astute dermatologist advised hair loss can be attributed to Wellbutrin. I read a blog and also identified other symptoms thought to be from the thyroid such as memory loss, difficulty focusing, and losing train of thought mid conversation etc.( I honestly thought I was getting Alzheimer's - very scary).

I also recently experienced unexplained itchiness, although I do not have dry skin (scalp or body). I use good hair care products and am very careful with my hair care routines. My hair was always thick, healthy and full- until now!

Derm put me on a corticoid topical formula and a special shampo. In just two days noticed less fallout when washing/drying my hair and less fall out during the day.

I also take 'Natures Plus Ultra Hair' Supplements (biotin and B vitamins-available at good health food stores- I prefer the personal consultation from my local health store.)This is an EXCELLENT PRODUCT! I have used Ultra Hair before during what I thought was hair loss due to thyroid with great success.

Nothing was working this time until using derm's Rx products. Ultra Hair takes about six weeks to notice results, but worth it . I am also going off Wellbutrin cold turkey! The hair loss, memory loss and itchiness were more depressing than before meds.

!!!Amazingly!!! I have been on Wellbutrin and generic brand for many years without itchiness and severe hair loss. Memory loss and concentration issues date back to about a year or 18mos ago. I attributed most of these symptoms to excess stress and thyroid issues.

What gives?? Why the sudden problems with something I had been taking for years??
