why do you have to take it for the rest of your life? what's your disease? first off, realize that these steroid medicines are powerful anti-inflammatories so i assume that your condition has something to do with inflammation (it's surprising how many of them do!).
so, get yourself off anything that adds to your inflammation. eat an anti-innflammatory diet. make sure that you load up on omega-3 oils and minimize omega-6 oils. that means vegetables and cold water fish (salmon, wild caught). be careful with meat and dairy. if the animals were fed grains (corn & soy) instead of their natural grass/ hay diet, then their meat, milk & eggs will be high in omega-6 oils and low in omega-3.
if you eat meat, find yourself a grass farmer and buy meat from him. you want to make sure that any animal products you eat come from grass fed or pastured animals.
have yourself checked for food allergies and avoid anything that causes inflammation. take additional omega-3 in the form of high quality fish oil or fish oil capsules.
you may bring yourself to a place where you can get by with less medication, maybe even no medication
