cannot believe how many stories I have read about mirena and hair loss etc..etc.. etc.. I have experienced many of the side effects that everyone is mentioning.. I actually feel I could live with most of them if it weren't for the hair loss. I have had ( copying from other post.. ridiculous right?)Tired all the time ~ Depression ~ Hungry all the time ~ leg cramps ~ HAIR LOSS TO THE POINT OF BALDING IN SEVERAL AREAS ~ oily skin and bad breakouts ~ Mood swings (huge...yelling fits at my husband and the kids) ~ fluttering in uterus ~Sore breasts.. I have medium thick hair that is about 10 inches. I noticed a bald spot in June and now have discovered 4-5 others starting. I just had the iud removed today and my OB pretty much tried to convince me that there is no way that the IUD is causing my issues. I have never had any of these issues before. I got the Mirena on 4/30 of 08 and noticed slowly but surely all of the side effects mentioned. My OB told me that the progesterone could not be causing my issues because it is such a small dosage that it would be comparable to spitting in the ocean as far as the amount that is in my blood stream. She said because I am black and 35 that I may have an autoimmune disorder and that I should stop reading blogs. I told her that all of my research wasn't from a blog and that ALOPECIA is a side effect just not mentioned in my pamphlet that I can find. I understand what she is saying and that she is the one that is the doctor, but nobody knows my body better than I do.. I am in it!! I have never had any problems and have been healthy my entire life. There is no history of autoimmune disease in my family. I am going to my primary care doctor.. to have some blood tests done. I think that the mirena has caused an autoimmune response in my body.. it may not necessarily be the progesterone..although I don't rule it out no matter what she says . the progesterone is synthetic and has an androgynous like activity that is similar to testosterone the main thing that causes male pattern baldness. also Mirena is made out of Silicone.. perhaps those of us that are having hair loss are having it due to our body trying to fight off the foreign invader of the IUD itself. I was going to go and have the Paragard inserted.. because i was thinking it may just be the progesterone.. nope... I read that many women are complaining of ACNE and HAIRLOSS even with that because its made out of copper. So with that being said.. not sure what to do.. may have to go back on Yasmin.. didn't seem to have any problems with that.. I really just don't want to risk putting another hormone in my body.. We all need to get together and look into a class action suit because I am tired of being made to feel crazy by doctors.. sometimes what seems to not be possible is .. especially when there are so many women having the same problem. Feel free to e-mail me re: a class action suit.. if they took depo off Mirena needs to come of too. It seems like it has really screwed a lot of peoples system up.. Hopefully I won't find out I know have a thyroid problem etc.. etc.. ******e-mail me with Mirena in the subject line!!

Day 17 for me now with the Mirena. I know they tell you a lot of the side effects are normal, but to me everything I'm experiencing is not normal.
After reading 100's of complaints for woman that have had lots of side effects from Mirena, common sense tells me to get this thing out of my body. Like many of you, I have experienced MAJOR hair loss, cramping everyday, diarrhea on and off, headaches, SHARP PAIN through my entire body, flu like symptoms, mood swings, nausea, can't sit down for long or in a certain position, cramping on my feet, hurts after intercourse, bloating of my stomach, pancreas pain, SEVERE BACK PAIN upper and lower, extremely tired all the time, can't workout or even take walks without major pains on my left or right side of my stomach and the list goes on!

I truly feel for all the woman that have experienced similar symptoms to mine. I also wish the government would be a bit more strict on devices like IUD's. Obviously, they do not tell us the truth and nothing but the whole truth about all the possible side effects. I know it may work for some woman, but even those that think is working for them, I've read lots of posts about all the problems they had after 3, 4 or 5 years of Mirena use.

My only regret is that I wish I had read all of these posts about Mirena and all the side effects woman all over the world are having. I certainly would not have gotten Mirena if I had known then what I know now. I also found some medical reports (reported by doctors and their patients) and the reports are astonishing! Especially the Death Rates reported to be caused by the use of Mirena. Not to mention the hundreds of hospitalizations caused by the use of Mirena. Why are some doctors so convinced that this is the best choice for pregnancy prevention? I am going in and asking my Gyn and her nurse if they use or have ever used Mirena themselves. I'm willing to bet the answer will be NO. I am going in this week to have this horrible device removed from my body ASAP.
Like many of you, I would much rather find another method of contraception then to go bold, continue with severe mood swings or worse yet have a miscarriage, contract an infection and possibly die.

Unfortunately, I thought I was doing well on Yaz birth control and that wasn't going so well either. I got off Yaz because of all the problems it was causing with my body and thought Mirena would be a better choice. Now Yaz is being sued due to severe side effects that have been reported. I wouldn't consider taking Yaz or any other birth control pill at this point because it has turned my world upside down.

One thing you should know is that doctors do NOT like to hear patients talk about anything we read on the Internet. WHY? Because it's misleading information....so they say, or is it? Because in many cases the truth is revealed making lots of doctors look like they didn't do their research. You should keep reading your blogs and tell your doctor he/she should maybe consider in reading them!! Yes, I agree that some people do not know how to express themselves properly in blogs, but many do. When you have hundreds and maybe thousands of reports and woman blogging about their symptoms it should be taken in consideration. The reason many of us are in search for answers other than our doctors is because many times we feel like our doctors are not listening to what we are trying to say. Perhaps they don't have an answer or solution to the problem, but we all know they are not GOD. Most all of us woman are NOT Stupid and I'm tired of being treated like I'm not educated enough to know my body.

Woman should get together and fight back!
