Good that you will stop taking this drug that cause many side effects. I suggest that you find a naturopathic . . . a dr. that will help. . naturally . . there are many natural products/alternatives . . . .instead of drugs. You have enough problems.. . . . BEST WISHES. (Unfortunately, most drs. are drug-happy and they don't know/care about the side effects.)
No, no, no. Do not just take yourself off the drug without help. Yes, you should get off this drug -- I recently did, and am glad for it. But it is very dangerous to just stop taking a medication like this. You could suffer a hypertensive crisis, it could hurt or kill you. It is obvious that you DO need another doctor; the one you have is just flat wrong about what he or she said, and frankly if you ask me that's an example of plain malpractice.
Naturopaths are all fine and good, but I personally have tried them myself and they all failed miserably to help my BP. What you need is a fully trained medical doctor who will LISTEN to you, take TIME with you, and isn't blinded by Big Pharm. One open to alternative treatments, but not dogmatically committed to them.
There is a worldwide movement of doctors who are challenging how medicine is practiced, especially in the U.S. If you can find one such, you will get 30-90 minutes for your sessions (they work in very small offices with no helpers and minimal overhead). I can't give you the national web address here -- this site edits them out -- but do a search on "ideal medical practice and look for a non-profit organization using a similar URL to that. I believe you will find listings of docs there who are part of it. My own doc is a grad of Oregon Health Sciences University and did his residency in a major urban hospital. Another doc I met went to the University of Texas, getting top honors in med school. So there are some really top-notch docs doing this.
By the way, my doc switched me recently to Cozaar. It's awfully expensive, but so far no noticeable side-effects. Whether it's really working well is another question, but there ARE alternatives to the ACE Inhibitors like Lisinopril.
