I had the Mirena for about 8 months last year. I had interesting side effects(vaginal dryness(sex was terribly painful!!), mood swings, etc.) and finally convinced my doctor to insert the "old-fashioned" IUD (the copper T). This is my second copper T and these are good for 10 years.I had the first removed so that I could have another child. I really love it. I have had it in for almost a year. I like this because it has NO hormones in it. I don't do well with extra hormones in my body. Most doctors that I have had say that they really do not know why it works, but they know it does prevent pregnancy. Ask your doctor about that.
