Hello Everyone, I've been doing some research on Mirena IUD side effects, and I'm so glad to come across these testimonials. I had Mirena placed in June of 2008, which hurt badly - something my doctor didn't tell me of until the procedure. Everything was fine most of 2008 but since January 2009 I have been extremely emotional and even was put on anti-anxiety/anti-depressant medication at one point. I have gained over 15 pounds in a year and can not get below a certain weight no matter how hard I try. My weight also fluctuates, which it never has before. I'm constantly gaining/losing 5-10 lbs, on a weekly basis. I have never weighed this much in my life, besides when I was pregnant, and it is really starting to bother me. I've attributed most of my moods and "hormones" to being a single mom of two toddlers, financial stress, relationship stress with my ex and with my mother. I eat healthy and get exercise a few times a week. I'm definitely thinking removing the IUD would help my situation and make me feel like "me" again. My question goes to the ladies that have had the Mirena IUD and have had it removed. Have you noticed a considerable difference, and if so, how long does it take for you to notice side effects starting to dissipate? Thanks.

Hi. I feel for you, I really do. I had my IUD in for 9 months and it's been out for 3 weeks now. I felt a "lifting of my mood" within 24 hours! I have been on anti anxiety meds for years, longer than I had the mirena, but the side effects were most definately from the IUD. I went back on the pill immediately the same day I had it removed so as to have no break in hormones. The pill has always worked for me so I just went back to it. No awful side effects like Mirena. It's obvious each woman has to find what works best. But after having it out 3 weeks, I feel happy again, in much better mood, and most side effects have already cleared or are milder now. It we definately worth it to get it out. I wish you the best of luck. Don't know how long it takes to get out of the wood completely, but at least we're not adding to it any longer after it is removed. You can begin to heal after that.

i felt better the instant it was out, but it did take a while for the terrible side effects to properly go away, most had gone within two weeks, but some did linger a bit long but nothing compared with when the mirena was in. Removal was quick and painless....
