I am a generally active and fairly healthy 77 yr old who had been taking 10 mg of Lipitor for over 12 years with no obvious adverse effects. Recently I started having pain in my right leg, severe enough to wake me at night. This was followed by a significant weakness in both legs, and for a while, accompanied by a lightheartedness. The doctor had me take a series of lumbar and leg x-rays which didn't show much of significance. He wrote a prescription for physical therapy, which I did not follow. I did internet research on my own which made me aware that Lipitor could be the cause, in spite of the fact that I had tolerating the drug for so many years. I told the Doctor of my suspicions and we agree to stop the Lipitor for at least 6 weeks to see. A few days later, all my symptoms were gone. So be cautious, adverse effects from Lipitor can occur anytime.

i'mm so grateful for your post. it serves as a reminder to all that yes indeed, you can be fine on statins for years and then suddenly your luck runs out. it's a good thing that you did your own research and it's amazing that your doctor actually listened to you

This dangerous drug cause MANY side effects. Drs. and the drug co's continue to do a SCAM on the anti-cholesterol drugs . . . it is all about big $$$. In reality, your mind/body needs cholesterol to function properly. DON'T LET YOUR DR. TO CON YOU TO TAKE ANY STATINS.

I have been monitoring patient reports from side efects from statins for many many years. Some people experience debilitating effects the first week, while others can take the drug for up to 18 years before trouble strikes. Its really odd. Its like a biological time bomb and everyone's timer is set different.

Anyone taking statins is playing Russian roulette with his health. Sooner or later, statins will send a bullet into your memory, muscles, nerves, etc.

Very well said Farside. But instead of a "bullet" I would say it sends a Hellfire Missile into your nerves and muscles.

There is a medical professor in the states who had tolerated this poison for years before he ran into trouble. He then fed fish with statins and took microscopic photos of the flesh damage - it's amazing the damage. Google Vikas Sukhatme. I'm thrilled at 77 yrs you were able to do your own research I am filthy bitter for the poor folk who can't do their own research then get told these are age related problems by their doctors who continue to poison them. Cheers.
