I had no noticeable side effects when I first got it but now two and half years later, I have all the symptoms cited by other contributors. My breasts ache all the time, I have trouble concentrating, feel exhausted (even when I go to bed at 9:00 pm), feeling worthless, weight gain, bloated, arguing and complain all the time. Oh, and the ovarian cyst that caused soreness in my abdomen. I have so many symptoms and never put it together with the Mirena, probably because they came on slowly over time. The last year has been horrible! I'm finally getting it out tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced a gradual increase in symptoms over time?

In response to your question, I had the Mirena for 3 years and the side effects did not start until the second year and then finally in the 3rd year I realized what was probably causing them(Mirena) My Dr. Minimized my concerns but I had it out anyways and already feel so much better 3 weeks after removal.

I too have had the Mirena in for 2 yrs. 7 months. The further along the worse the bleeding. Before Mirena regular periods, after Mirena periods every two weeks and spotting in between. It's getting to where I can't remember when they stop. Breast tenderness all the time. I also have gained weight, lack of sex drive and acne. Which I haven't had since I was a teenager....several decades ago. It's not in your imagination!
