I am a 52 year old female and my bad cholesterol is fine but my good cholesterol is low. I have been taking Lipitor now for a few years and have numb hands and feet to the elbows and knees. My feet are extremely sensitive, worse at night and now I'm getting sharp pains that feel like a bug just bit me. My tongue is also always numb and I do get migraines.I have insane stomach issues and food intolerance. I also take medication for high blood pressure, acid reflux, & thyroid. I have now been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes but control that with diet so far. Until four years ago I had nothing wrong with me. I am slim and healthy. I had a lump in my thyroid which was removed and there was a trace of cancer. Then like dominos all the other conditions lined up. I have had MRIs and all the tests and doctors insist that I am not a severe enough diabetic to have neuropathy. I can hardly wear shoes now and it hurts when I wear runners while I walk and exercise. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I hate that my health has become so much a part of my daily life. Does anyone have neuropathy as a result of Lipitor and am I even taking the the right medication since I don't have high cholesterol?

Very familiar! Many people have gone thru what you are going thru with Lipitor.

Did your doctor tell you that becuse you have thyroid issues that you are high risk for myopathy/ neuropathy from statins? Its in the medical literature about the added risk for this group of people, and should be in the package insert that came with the drug.

Cholesterol plays a vital role in health, including your nervous system. Cholesterol helps form the myelin sheath that surrounds your nerves.
Also, your body forms all its steroid hormones from the "bad" LDL cholesterol. Cholesterol helps maintain healthy cells and helps build new cells. It gives the cell wall its structural stability. Cholesterol also plays an important role in digestion as it forms the bile acids we use for digesting foods. The human brain uses approx 25% of your body's cholesterol for something called nerve synapses and keeps a person's cognitive skills sharp. 50% of the dry weight of the cerebral cortex is comprised of, you guessed it.... cholesterol.

"Cholesterol, don't leave home without it!"

This dangerous drug can cause MANY side effects . . I am a victim of this POISON and I know ALL about it. . . unfortunately. The drs. and the drug co's are doing a SCAM on the anti-cholesterol drugs . . . .big $$$. In reality, your body/mind needs cholesterol to function properly.. . . .DON'T LET YOUR DR. TO CON YOU !!!! There are many natural products to control your diabetes or any issue. .. . .instead of taking drugs.

get off lipitor right away! taper down if you feel more comfortable with that but GET OFF IT. lipitor has shown no benefit whatsoever in women and if you don't have high cholesterol, what's the point?
if you want to get your HDLs higher, try exercise- probably hard to do considering you've been crippled by lipitor and take good quality fish oil- omega 3, which should also help with some of your aches and pains.
there have been reports of increased levels of ALS caused by prolonged statin use and that's the LAST thing you want!

Was the cholestrol pill the first pill you took 4 yrs ago? if so you've got your own answers. I started with nothing wrong with me with 1 cholestrol pill, within 15 months I was taking 1 diuretic 1 ace (blood pressure) 1 beta blocker 1 sleeping pill 2 differnent sorts of reflux pills at once 1 voltarin for the pain progressing on to morphine. For my health checkup with nothing wrong apart from "elavted cholestrol" 4 years later I ended up taking 22 pills A DAY from my good health doctor as I became crippled and unable to function. An out of town mate stopped in and told me I probably had statin poisoning. My good health doctor told me and my wife it's age you have to expect this at 54 yrs (then). read up at spacedoc.net read the post above yours and hopefuly you will get a quality life back. Good luck

Has anyone taken Pantoprazole 40 mg long term for Acid Reflux? My doc perscribed this for a cough 5 years ago and I didn't have heartburn. Wondering the side effects of this drug and if it's normal to perscribe this long term, Went off it once and quess what...heartburn. Sometimes these drugs create the symptoms. Trying to become perscription free.
