lisinopril and other ACE inhibitors force you to eat a diet low in potassium and high in processed foods (sodium). ironically, potassium regulates BP and sodium spikes it up so the drug meant to lower your BP actually makes you eat a diet that will cause high BP.
this only makes sense if you are a drug company, making money because people find it too difficult to eat right and exercise and easier to take a pill. garlic also naturally regulates BP. roast some whole bulbs in their paper skins- pour a little olive oil over them when you put them in the oven
hey, i should add a little warning footnote. i was put on this drug in april, not for high BP but for a kidney ailment that has since cleared up. i took 5 mg for 3 days and then my blood work came back. my potassium levels had gone into the danger zone and i had to have an EEG to make sure my heart wasn't damaged by the stuff. happily it wasn't and that was the end of my experience with lisinopril.
but the point is: a mere 5 mg for a lousy 3 days could have been enough to do damage to my heart!!!! you have been taking 20 mg for 6 days and you have adverse symptoms. i had no symptoms, only what showed in my blood work.
the morale of this story is- get your BP under control with other safer, non-pharmaceutical means. you need your heart! you don't need lisinopril
There are many natural products/alternatives for high blood pressure issues . . instead of taking drugs that cause side effects and not giving your $$ from the drug co's.
My doctor prescribed 10 mg/day of lisinopril, for BP averaging 150/95. Within three days, I had heart palpatations, weakness in my muscles, and shortness of breath. I immediately stopped taking the lisinopril, and still have the symptoms 2 days later. Also, my BP never came down. I was glad to find this website so I knew that others had these side effects.
