My husband has been on Lisinopril for months or at least a year. Suddenly night before last, he developed a swollen tongue, mouth and throat. He had to go to the ER by ambulance and they admitted him. He won't get out till tomorrow. The Dr is positive this is a known allergic reaction to Lisinopril and also other ACE inhibitors prescribed for blood pressure. I asked how it could happen now and so severely after all this time on the drug. The Dr said it can happen that way such as a build up of toxins I guess he means. Initially they treated him with Benedryl and a steroid in the ER, thinking that he would go home in a few hours, but these two medicines had no effect whatsoever on his symptoms. He is now eating and is on a different medication. This is his 2nd day in the hospital.
