I have been on pred for 2 years off and on for Temporal Arteritis that the doctors at long last have decided that I don't have. They started me out on 60 mm and now they are taking me off at 1mm every other week. I am down to 11mm now. I have experienced all the side effects except the acne and problems with periods. I gained 40 pounds and have such bad pains in my lower back that I can't stay on my feet for long. And I'm always hungry though I try to control it. My main withdrawal symptom is extreme itching from my neck to my wrists and thighs. especially where there is any pressure on the body such as waist bands etc. I tried to get off it once but it was at a faster rate and that is when the itching started. I will gladly put up with the itching as long as I can get off this "Satans curse" of a medicine. I also have jerking in my hands and a general feeling of shakiness. I was glad to read that someone else had painful sensitive teeth I didn't know it was connected to the pred. I too wonder if I will be able to lose all this weight after I'm off the pred. I do know that the moon face goes away because it did the one time I came off the pred then had to get back on it. I also have weakness in my thighs and arms. and my arms are always getting big ugly bruises or torn skin on them to the point that I have to wear long sleeves in hot weather.feel free to email me with your story. Especially if you are off of it so I can have some idea what might happen to me

I've been on prednisone for several years. For about a week now i have had really bad tooth aches. Its in almost every tooth. I do have some dental work to be done and was blaming it on that but i did not think it was possible for the pain to be in all teeth. Do u think prednisone causes this teeth pain? I never had any problem before.

I was very relieved to read your posting describing your symptoms while weaning off of Prednisone. I was on it for three years while I had polymyalgia rheumatica, a syndrome that usually lasts about a year, but mine dragged on for about three. I've decreased by about 1 mg every 2 to 3 weeks. This may be a bit fast but i just can't stand to be on it any longer. I have the tissuepaper thin skin on my forearms that tears withh the slightest brush and bruises just as easily. I also have the moon face, the 35 lb weight gain, rollercoaster blood sugars eye damage, grossly malformed toenails and muscle weakness. Those are my ON PREDNISONE joys. My weaning symptoms include shakiness, lethargy, itching of my arms, hands, shoulders and neck. However, my worst problem is teethaching. At first it would start about half an hour after exercising and I assumed it was due to increased circulation. It starts as a little twinge in one tooth and slowly spreads to all my teeth and increases in intensity until it's unbearable.I've been to my dentist and he checked me out thoroughly. Other than reminding me that the Pred does soft tissue damage and this could be related, he was baffled. Now it's starting to happen out of the blue. What I'm hoping is that this will end when I'm off the stuff completely. Anyone have any information on this?

Thank you for the info. I've been on this lovey drug now for over two years had gained over 30lb. I now look like a line backer huge arms and big round face. Teeth problems and lack of energy I hate this stuff. I have been coming off 1mg a month. Thank God no itching. Trying very hard to lose the weight with no luck bounce back and fourth all the time. Will be a Grandma for the first time and very upset that I'll have no energy to play with my Grandson.. Anybody with weight loss and this junk please let me know!!!!
