After having many UTI's in the past, the problem with Bactrim was that it stopped working. I developed an immunity or tolerance to the drug, which didn't help with my next infection. I was then prescribed Levaquin, which, despite the cost, works, but it does take longer for the infection to completely clear up. Sometimes I wish I could take Bactim like I used to. $$$

I too had a UTI that was resistant to Bactrim. After ten days of Bactrim I was put on ten days of Levaquin. Ended up with white blotches (I am dark-
skinned) all over my body (shades of Michael Jackson, I thought)... Oh hell no! But that's not all. Then my Achilles tendons nearly burst. Horrible pains I couldn't imagine how it was caused. Come to find out that both
Bactrim and Levaquin have tendon rupture as a side-effect (never heard it from the doctor or pharmacist though). Since I was on both for a total of twenty days... I suppose I was fair game. Medicine is often a good thing for many who could not reduce or alleviate their ailments without it -- but I would have really liked to have known my increased risk of tendon rupture BEFORE the fact. As an athlete who loves tennis... it hasn't done a good thing for my game! Hope you and yours are doing fine now. My very best regards, Charmaine
