Chest pain, perhaps heartburn (or gas?) so bad that I can barely breathe...this only happens when I attempt to stop taking prednisone altogether. This time I tapered down from 50 mg to 25 mg (for a week) to 0 as of Sunday. I had been taking prednisone to combat an allergic reaction to poison sumac. I began taking 50 mg/day for a week, doubled it for another week, cut back to 50 for a third week, quit cold turkey and the rash "caught fire," so I started up again. This time I'm determined to stay off, but I wonder how long I have to put up with this horrible chest pain!

so, your pain in your chest is there when not on the drug, correct? I have had asthma badly recently...and bronchitis...so was rescued with prednizone..very thankful...Avoided going completely to the pack...afraid of too much...was terribly asthmatic...so started the pack two days ago. my lungs have been terrible itchy and my cough has been compulsive...from the itch and the mucus. Have been worried that i'm allergic to the prednizone (the really itchy lungs)...But you say that when you quit yourlungs are irritated, yes? I hope you figure it out. I want to go off it now because i'm very afraid of things i'm allergic to since i am asthmatic...but i don't want to do the wrong thing. I am praying that I will figure it out and do the right thing...Like i said somewhere else on here...it seems that hydrocodone (I use for TMJ a little) will calm my lungs down....also taking antihistamines and decongestants...I'm also upping my fluids...I'm trying to thin out the mucus. God bless:)
