Answer to "how pills fix the problem": Nobody knows, but the most recent and informed opinion is that some of us have sensitized pain-paths, and Neurontin somehow either dulls the nerve -paths, and/or relaxes muscles that are clenched up from nerve-messages, of whatever origin. Myself, I'm just happy to have something that dulls the muscle pains. JanK
