I have wondered about the side effects of zyrtec - our daughter has been taking it for 5 year - the same amount of time she has been depressed, negative, etc and these symptoms just get worse as she grows older! I wish she wasn't taking zyrtec. I don't think it's just a coinincidence that her sadness, gloom, and depression began the same she started the zyrtec. She's only 50 lbs and the Dr has her on an adult dose (but she does have severe, severe allergies).

I was on it for 5 years as well. The symptoms sort of creep up so you dont really attribute it to ALLERGY meds!

After I stopped taking it, I noticed that my feelings of general fogginess (I couldnt really concentrate), depression, mood swings and lethargy seemed to magically be gone! I can most def assure you her current state is directly tied to Zyrtec. Take her off of it for a couple weeks and see how she does.

I was 15-20 when I took it, after allegra and claritin failed. I had *severe* allergies, but now that I am 23, they seemed to have lessened. I think they were at their worst during my teen years. When I ran out once, I was miserable for a couple weeks, then my allergies seemed to fade away. I think my body sort of reset itself. Now the odd mold/ cat/ dust overdose will bother me but then I just take Chlor-Trimeton for it and its all better! Hope you figure it out!
