I have Duchenne Muscular Dysrophy. I also had asthma as a child. My dangerous asthma lead to my constant prednisone treatment. When Drs found that it saved my muscles from being weaker then what they are now they decided to keep me on it every day. I take 2.5 in the morning and 5 mg at night. I know it doesn't seem like much but I also have hypoglycemia. A sugar problem that leads to constant low blood sugar. My hypoglycemia must be maintained properly so my sugar level can't go too high or too low.
None the less. I too suffer greatly from psychotic episodes of rage from this seeminglessly demon-filled medication. The way I deal with it is with narcotics. I am in extreme pain so I am part of a pain management program. The narcotics really help me calm down. On top of that I use a drug called clonazepam. It is a stress reliever. Normal does is .5 mg twice a day. I take it 4 times a day. The most important thing to do while on prednisone is to stay away from the stuff that gets you upset. Because I'm sure you know that once you get angry... it's not only hard to deal with it... It takes a LOONGGG timmmmme to calm down.
My secret to surviving with my wife: She knows when I'm myself and when I'm prednisone. She understands that part. LEARN TO MEDITATE. That helps A HELL OF A LOTTTTTTT!!!!! When you get anxious or uncomfortable or a thought just won't go away, develop a neutral zone in your mind. A place in your mind that has everything you desire. Sex, all the vedio games ever made, the biggest TV set you could have, the most beautiful house, the most beutiful island etc... and just think of being there. Immerse yourself and actually imagine the sounds of waves on the beach calming you down. It sounds silly and gay but dude... It works. Try it and you might do a lot better then what you're doing now. If you go to a dr, they're just going to put you on a psycho pill and I've gone that route. They wear off and comming down off of a psycho pill while on PREDNISONE is the MOST DIFFICULT THING IN LIFE!!!!!!! So don't do it, man. Anti anxiety pills are the way to go. If clonazepam isn't working sometimes I have to take valume Valume works really well and if you're bad enough, you should coax your dr. into giving it to you. If you're affraid of pills, then your going to have problems. All your doing is countering one chemical with another to create a moderate balance. It's not ever going to totally go away. It's actually going to always creep it'self to get worse so hang in there man. You're not the only one out there. I know it hurts to be on it. But it saves my life and I have to live with the demon. Have a good day.
