hi a am a 30 year old single mom of a ten year old. I have been on clonazepam for over five years. I developed panic attacks shortly after having a surgery to correct my heart. I was born with two electrical pathways, and would have heart palpitations that lead me to the emergeny room several times. I am currently taking 1mg three times a day. I would like to get off the drug, and have heard from a friend that I causes damage to your liver. Has anyone heard of that? If anyone has heard please let me know.

Hi! I have been on Clonazepam (Klonopin) before, and after a few years, I just currently started taking it again. What's really important for you as you ask your question is to have your physician check your liver function via bloodwork every few months while you're taking the drug. :)
Simple as that! It does not 'cause' liver problems such as Hepatitis A,B, or C.
Talk to your physician about a 'fatty liver' as well if you're concerned.
All the best - I'm gaining weight from it because it has increased my appetite, where as Librium didn't.:( New to me.....

forgot to add, many drugs can cause damage to our liver, we just need to be proactive and keep in close contacts with our prescribing physicians about any changes - good or not so good ;)
