Fosamax Kidney Function, Joint Pain, Hips, Good Luck, Dairy Myth

I have been taking Fosamax for over five years, once weekly. Just recently, I have had very achy hips and joint pain. I also bruise terribly and it seems to be mostly on my bony hands. I am very small boned and was so afraid that I would break a bone, I would never miss a dose but I have decided not to take it any more. I also have poor kidney function and am not sure if Fosamax is the reason but I will stay off of it and have my blood tested again to see if the kidney function improves. Good luck to all of you.

Propsguy - there is a huge problem with all these bone loss drugs. your skeleton has basically two processes- old bone is always being lost and new bone is always being built to replace it. so your skeleton is always relatively "young." as you get older, the rate of loss speeds up and the rate of regrowth slows down some. weight bearing exercise and natural bioidentical progesterone will keep the rate of regrowth higher. forget the dairy myth- those benefits were created on madison avenue. cultures that have never used dairy products have far lower rates of osteoporosis than our milk drinking country. the problem with the osteoporosis drugs is that they slow the rate of bone loss but do nothing to the rate of bone regrowth. the net result is that over time, you end up with an "older" skeleton, actually more prone to fractures than if you had just left yourself alone. take some yoga classes. and yes, all drugs are filtered through the kidneys and the liver. the more of that stuff you take, the more you tax your body's filtering system
