Method of Taking Kayexalate

I am a diebetic patient with kidney problems. In the past 2 years I have had incidents of hipperkalemia and my nephrologist prescribed me Kayexalate. I would like to know why is it in powder form? It is very difficult for me to take it this way. Thank you.
