On June 15th, I saw my doctor for a regular checkup. I mentioned my hands hurting in the morning (I'm a 51 year old woman), and that my hay fever seemed really bad this year. He said, "I've got a solution for you!" I took one injection in my upper arm of Kenalog 40.
I have been going through menopause the past few years, and for months have had very little period activity. Just some dark spotting every 5 months or so, lasting just a couple of days.
6 days after my injection, I began bleeding heavily, bright red with clotting. Then my mood went nuts. I was angry, paranoid, yelling at my husband etc. Not normal behavior for me at all. Then the fatigue began, terrible fatigue, to the point where just a simple trip to the store is impossible. I'm weak and basically feel terrible.
I finally looked up the side effects of Kenalog and found all of my problems mentioned. I didn't look it up before I noticed all the symptoms. The bleeding alone didn't cause me concern because it has happened before, just not for a long time.
I spoke to my doctor on the phone last week. At first he focused only on the bleeding and said it wasn't connected. Then I listed my other symptoms...and he got very quiet. He said they will mark my chart that I am "sensitive" to steriods, and to call him if I'm not feeling better by July 10th. Today has been terrible, I have never been this tired and weak in my life. I will NEVER take another medicine without first doing my own research.
Every day I wake up wondering what new symptom will develop. Stay far away from this drug.
