Lipitor Bad Cholesterol, Cholestrol, Simvastatin, Cholesterol, Medications

Hi, I'm from South Africa and we have a different cholesterol reading to you overseas. At the moment my reading is 8.2. What would that be in any of your countries as I do not know how your readings work Can someone help?? My bad cholesterol is my problem. I've been on medications over the years. I was taken off 40 mg Simvastatin as my reading went up. They have now put me onto 40 mg of Lipitor. Now using it for 4 days. Will definitely look out for side-effects. I would also like to know of someone knowing what the highest reading for cholesterol on a human was. Just wondering! E.

Ruralex - Esther, Your reading would be about 317 in America, however, total cholesterol numbers don't really mean anything. You need your breakdown of HDL, LDL, and triglycerides. You can lower your LDL, and tri's by eating healthy and losing weight. Exercise will help to raise your HDL and it's just good for you :-) Some studies have shown that statins are useless for women in prevention of heart attack and stroke. Our bodies need cholesterol to function so don't be frightened of it. Just take proper care of your body and don't worry about cholesterol. Best wishes.

Hasina - cholesterol reading level is same as Australian standard and cholesterol above 5.5 in normal cholesterol and yours is slightly high than normal range you need to drop it down to 5.5 and the healthiest limit is above 4.7 lower than that could cause severe depression and many damage to the brain so be careful taking cholesterol medication over period of time will give you many other problem that your doctor will never relate to cholesterol medication .diet is important key factor to control your cholesterol and search on the net there are many potent herb that lower cholesterol naturally some like ginger ,garlic,turmeric ,and fenugreek seed all has cholesterol lowering activities so research on it you can try it .good luck

Oldcarpetcleaner - My neighbour's count is 19 not a misprint, he is in fine order apart from memory loss, sore legs, disturbed sleep and tiredness all of course caused by his statin medication. My count got down to 3.6 BUT I could not function physically or mentally and was wreaked in pain from the statins. My last count 1 yr ago was 7.2 I would expect it to be around 8.5 now and i feel a million zillion times better than before. If your diet, exercise, height weight ratio is sensible then for me, LOVE THOU CHOLESTROL - IT IS LIFE ITSELF. There is an earlier posting here of a fellow who is educated in medicine, he stated "my family has a history of high lipids and no heart problems." Prior to statins there is heaps of historic data showing low cholestrol counts have been shown to be associated with physical and mental impairment. if your lifestyle is sensible be grateful for what we are given and avoid fraudlent, brain dead, genocidal white coats except for extreme emergencies.
